Have the 2000+/3000+ CPUs radically lowered their power consumption over
the 1400-1700Mhz iterations?  If not, than 200 or 300 watt may not work.
  It isn't so much the watts as it is the amount of amperage on the
different power lines.  The AMD CPUs/motherboards really suck some juice
on voltages that the Intel motherboards don't pull on as much.  That is
why AMD had to come up with the AMD certified power supplies.  This is
pretty old information so a google search will dig up all the dirt.

Good advice.  For me, that $1500 would include a 17" or bigger DVI LCD.
  For just a regular system with 17" or 19" Trinitron CRT I would spend
no more than $900.
