The easiest way, I think, would be to copy /etc/DIR_COLORS to
~/.dir_colors. The file documents itself pretty well. I assume you want
to change the color in which different file types appear. That should be
pretty easy to do from descriptions in the file. (It seems that you have
to open a new shell for the new colors to take effect.)
