Windows? I personally tether my Treo, and have the superior (moveable
and ext. antenna) PC card for Verizon on craigslist. Verizon has had
the best coverage and customer service for my own customers, but they
are not the cheapest.

I am also satisfied with my Verizon wireless Internet and switching
my business and family, but you do pay more than other offerings in
the area. I feel lucky to have customers spread through out the state
to help know what's good and bad. I prefer my tethered phone over my
KPC650 card that is superior to the cheaper card in most bundles.

There are articles and recipes to use the EVDO and Linux, but I have
not tried it because work and wife always have me in Windows when I
use it. Maybe there are phones cheaper than a Treo that will tether
the EVDO service?

I have a site using the Netwurx product that is in a digital nowhere
land, but has roof top line if site to a one of their towers. It has
exceeded everybody's expectations, but is not perfect. I do not know
how Netwurx handles consumer calls, but as a business customer they
sure beat TDS where you can reach the humans with clue department and
speak with people who will not argue that Linux and Cisco logs are
meaningless. Netwurx supplied the antenna, but we had to optimize
it's placement and get it roof top. It has a power injector for the
Ethernet the wall wart did die in a storm, but not the Cisco PIX it's
plugged into.

This is about the time when back to school related offers show up so
this site you speak of could get a worthy deals from the telco, cable
company or wireless carriers. Last Aug. Charter had all in one data,
TV and voice sans-fees and contract while TDS had a bundle with Dish.

FWIW: I seem to be the only one I know usually happy with my EVDO and
Charter service, but I work with this stuff in many places all the
time so I may be more realistic.

Good luck.
