[Madlug] Error message: "acpi_cpufreq"

On several (not all) Linux boxes I have here I see an error message
during the
initialization sequence. It immediately follows the "normal message"
which reads
"checking for hardware changes". The version for Fedora Core 6 reads:
"FATAL: Error inserting
acpi_cpufreq(/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798/fc6/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko)
: no such device"
One rather puzzling and potentially subtle aspect about this is that
it does
not appear on all boxes with the same distro, the only differences
between them
being hardware factors such as CPU speed, RAM size, and a few others.
Hmmm ...
I have looked on the Web and read numerous quotes from others who have
seen this message, almost character-for-character the same. The
responses mostly seem
to indicate something to the effect that a custom build of the kernel is
needed to get this
message to disappear. I find it somewhat odd that the reverse is not the
case as these instances
all occur on builds that I have done without any special options
selected. In other words,
I would expect a greater chance for this to occur on a custom
installation than on a standard
one. There do not seem to be any system malfunctions endemic to the OS
in any of these
installations, but all the same I would like to know what this message
really means, whether
or not I can find a way to eliminate it.
