The .deb packages all have default permissions recorded in them --
surely there must be a way to correct permissions via dpkg? But a
quick search through dpkg man pages didn't reveal anything to me. A
google search turned up a page[1] suggesting it was infeasible to fix,
but I have a hard time believing that. This sounds like a fairly
straightforward open source project for someone with scripting skills.
