Both Suspend and Hibernate work well on recent version of Linux.  It 
takes about 5 seconds to initiate suspend to disk on my laptop (Dell 
D830) with Fedora 10.  Resuming takes about 10 seconds with a little 
while longer for the wireless device to be ready.
