This was *the* huge problem with the 2 series.  It did not prompt for
codecs...or didn't in Ubuntu, anyway.  We've got Olympics in HD here
(mostly, not MSNBC where the hockey game will be tonight) so not a lot of
reason for it, but will be interesting experiment.
