I originally replied with this but sent it under the wrong address:

If you go the dual boot route, just remember to install win7 first, then
your linux. Win7 writes over on the boot partition.  There is a nice guide
on Lifehacker's site about win7 and unbuntu in perfect harmony using four
partitions. One Win, one linux OS, one swap, and one big data. They even go
over how to map your home directories to a common folder.
